In any column system, packing can give best & optimum performance only when complemented with appropriately designed tower distributors, collectors, supports and other column internals for optimum liquid – vapour distribution to the packed beds. It can be made of metal, plastic or ceramic. The dump packing consists of the same material, but as the name suggests, the packing is simply dumped into the column.  Dump packings are usually individualized pieces that come in pre-made segments, unlike structured packings.
