Finepac Structures: Where Quality Meets Reliability

The random packings are an integral part of any distillation column. The random packings performed the crucial function of increasing the surface area inside the column which allowed larger interaction between two immiscible fluids (liquid & gas or Liquid). These fluids are passed inside the columns in a counterflow manner. In order to maintain effective mass transfer, the random packings played a crucial role by increasing the surface area available of both fluids.

Before Raschig rings, material like glass spheres, pumice stones, pieces of coke, etc was used, but they proved very ineffective. However, the real breakthrough came with Raschig rings which laid the foundation of further such mass transfer enabling media. Let us have a look like some the popular and effective media used after the Raschig rings:

·    Pall rings: Pall rings are the next generation of the Raschig rings. Due to its specific size and shape, Pall rings create an intricate structure inside them which enables higher fluid transfer rates by minimizing the number of counters and crevices, Pall rings lead to liquid hold-up, improved entrapment, increase capacity and allow lower pressure drops than standard rings. Depending on their usage Pall rings could be made of various materials like stainless steel, Duplex Stainless steel, Titanium, Nickel based alloys, etc. Pall rings find application in industries like gas treatment plants, chemical reaction absorbers, stripping, absorption and scrubbing services. Finpac is leading pall rings manufacturers in India

·    IMTP Packing: A significant improvement occurred in Pall rings in the 1970’s with the introduction of IMTP packing. Due to its saddle shape, the IMTP packing not only had the benefits of the Pall rings but offered significantly higher and improved capacity than the pall rings. Its unique geometric shape allows lower liquid holdup and higher mass transfers. IMPT packing allows the column diameter to be significantly lower thereby reducing the construction cost further. IMPT packing finds widespread usages in industries like acid-gas removal, gas sweetening, de-methanisers, Natural Gas Liquid treatment, high pressure or atmospheric pressure distillation processes. Depending upon their usage, IMTP packaging is made of materials similar to the Pall rings.

·    Structured Packing: The advance version in mass transfer to provide an adequate surface area is structured packing. Structure packing offers the highest efficiency, excellent throughput, low-pressure drops and broadest variety of application in absorption columns, distillation, and chemical reactors. With its different shapes like a grid, knitted, sheet metal, gauze, etc. structured packing is soon becoming industry standard due to its versatility.

One of the best-known names in this part of the world for rings and packing material is Finepac Structures. Established in 1993, Finepac has been the torchbearer in the field of mass transfer and separation technology. Today Finepac has 4 manufacturing sites engaged in the production of various state-of-the-art mass transfer and separation enabling products which form a crucial element in the distillation industry. One of the few Indian manufacturers which have an international appeal due to its unmatched quality, Finepac also confirms to the prestigious ISO 9001:2015 and other industry relevant certifications. Finepac is known for its excellent manufacturing practices, sophisticated machinery, consistent international quality, and highly skilled manpower, making it one of the few Indian companies in this field to be reckoned with.
